Supported SQL offerings (SSMS 18.1)
- This version of SSMS works with all supported versions of SQL Server 2008 - SQL Server 2019 preview and provides the greatest level of support for working with the latest cloud features in Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
- Additionally, SSMS 18.x can be installed side by side with SSMS 17.x, SSMS 16.x, or SQL Server 2014 SSMS and earlier.
- SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) - SSMS version 17.x or later does not support connecting to the legacy SQL Server Integration Services service. To connect to an earlier version of the legacy Integration Services, use the version of SSMS aligned with the version of SQL Server. For example, use SSMS 16.x to connect to the legacy SQL Server 2016 Integration Services service. SSMS 17.x and SSMS 16.x can be installed side-by-side on the same computer. Since the release of SQL Server 2012, the SSIS Catalog database, SSISDB, is the recommended way to store, manage, run, and monitor Integration Services packages. For details, see SSIS Catalog.
Supported Operating systems (SSMS 18.1)
This release of SSMS supports the following 64-bit platforms when used with the latest available service pack:
- Windows 10 (64-bit) *
- Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

* Requires version 1607 (10.0.14393) or later
Note
SSMS runs on Windows only. If you need a tool that runs on platforms other than Windows, take a look at Azure Data Studio. Azure Data Studio is a new cross-platform tool that runs on macOS, Linux, as well as Windows. For details, see Azure Data Studio.

You need to install ENUx64SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe which is Express with Tools (RTM release. SP1 release can be found here).

As the page states
Express with Tools (with LocalDB) Includes the database engine and SQL Server Management Studio Express) This package contains everything needed to install and configure SQL Server as a database server. Choose either LocalDB or Express depending on your needs above.
So install this and use the management studio included with it.

When I installed:ENUx64SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe
I had to choose the following options to get the management Tools:
- 'New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.'
- 'Add features to an existing instance of SQL Server 2012'
- Accept the license.
- Check the box for 'Management Tools - Basic'.
- Wait a long time as it installs.
When I was done I had an option 'SQL Server Management Studio' within my Start Menu.
Searching for 'Management' pulled it up faster within the Start Menu.

You can download the 32bit or 64bit version of 'Express With Tools' or 'SQL Server Management Studio Express' (SSMSE tools only) from:

Good evening,
The previous clues to get SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe runing didn't work as stated for me. After a while of searching, trying, retrying again and again, I finally figured it out. When executing SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe on my Windows seven system, I kept runing into compatibility issues. The trick is to run SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe in compatibility mode with Windows XP SP2.Edit the installer properties and enable compatibility mode with XP (service pack 2), then you'll be able to access Mr Doug (answered Mar 4 at 15:09) resolution.
Cheers.

Easiest way to install MSSQL 2012 MS SQL INSTALLATION
Here i am showing the easiest way to install ms sql 2012.
My opinion is the installation will be easier with windows 8.1 rather than windows 7.
This is my personnal opinion only.
We can install in windows 7 as well.
The steps to be followed:
Microsoft Sql Server 2012 Express Sp2
Download any one of the link using the following URL
SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe or SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe
SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe or SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe
Right click on .exe file and run it

We should leave everything default while installing.
During installation, there will be 2 options:
1)If you are New user, then click on new sql-server stand alone application.
2)If you have already MS SQL application then you can upgrade by using the other option.
Microsoft Sql Server 2012 Express Iso Download Windows 7
Then accept the Licence terms and click Next.
Now you will move on to Product Updates and press next then Setup support rules.
After this Feature selection.According to me we can check all the boxes except localdb.
Next it will take you to Instance Configuration where you should select Named Instance as
'SQLEXPRESS'.
Then go to Server Configuration and press next.
Now Database engine configuration:
Authentication Mode:we can click on any one that is windows authentication mode or mixed.
Windows authentication mode (default for windows).
Mixed authentication mode:then should create username and password.
Then move on Error reporting,we can move further by clicking next to install process.
Finally we can see the Complete windows by showing the products added .
We can close and run the MSSQL server.
I hope it's useful.
